Requirements for New Jersey's domestic violence specialist certification process

To be eligible for Domestic Violence Certification in New Jersey, applicants must show proof of:

One hundred and eighty hours of domestic violence specific education as specified in the following core curriculum areas are required:

Twelve core curriculum hours will be earned for required visits to each of the following sites: a Domestic Violence Shelter; a Courthouse; an Al-Anon Meeting; and an AA meeting.

A Personal Statement and agreement to adhere to NJADVP's Philosophical Principals and Code of Ethics, are also required.

One thousand hours of direct service experience with domestic violence clients, which includes 180 hours of supervised direct service in 14 specific task areas:
