Requirements for New Jersey's
domestic violence specialist certification process

 
 

To be eligible for Domestic Violence Certification in New Jersey, applicants must show proof of:

One hundred and seventy hours of domestic violence specific education as specified in the following core curriculum areas are required:

Required visits to each of the following sites: a Domestic Violence Shelter; a Courthouse; an Al-Anon Meeting; and an AA meeting.

A Personal Statement and agreement to adhere to NJADVP's Philosophical Principals and Code of Ethics, are also required.

One thousand hours of direct service experience with domestic violence clients, which includes 200 hours of supervised direct service in 7 specific task areas which all include: competence in appropriate documentation with confidentiality and ethical standards.

Education & Prevention: Developing, facilitating and or delivering information on domestic violence dynamics or services, to clients, general public, other helping agencies

or staff.

Case Management/Service Provision: Safety planning and assisting with concrete needs i.e. financial, housing, medical access to other services.

Group Dynamics: Facilitating or observing groups for clients and or their children.

Networking/Community Organizing: Developing a working relationship with state and community services impacting domestic violence clients and learning to affect change

on behalf of families impacted by domestic violence.

The total fee for the DVS credential is $250.00. Reduced fee applications are available upon request. To receive an application packet for Domestic Violence Specialist Certification, complete the Initial Enrollment Form below and submit to:

NJADVP has made some changes to the DVS process to make applying for your certification easier. If you are just beginning the DVS certification process please use the enrollment form above. The older application process has been phased out as of December 30, 2013.
