Social justice means…
Complete and genuine equality of all people in the society and goes way beyond laws and political correctness. It rests on the knowledge that each and every human being has value and deserves to be treated with dignity.
Working to create a society where every person is cared for by building a community in which we develop attitudes and beliefs about people that are based in mutual respect.
Social justice allows…
For the creation of a society that treats human beings in a way that helps them realize their full human potential.
For the creation of policies and practices in governmental, educational, religious, economic, social service and all other structures in the society that protect and enhance the value of each person.
Social justice requires…
That we step away from understanding diversity as a process in which those in the majority see themselves as “normal” and all others as “different” from them. This perception of difference perpetuates the concept of “the other” and does not allow for attitudes, beliefs or experiences that help to support the basic tenets of social justice--equality, equity and full inclusion.
